Australian Society of Authors

The Australian Society of Authors (ASA) is the professional association for Australia’s authors and illustrators. The organisation provides advocacy, support and advice for authors and illustrators in matters relating to their professional practice.
Event: Calling All Illustrators – Two Day Event
Session: How to Get Started in the World of Comics and Graphic Novels
Julie Ditrich is the first Australian woman to write for The Phantom. How did she get there? Julie talks about her career path, the definitions of comics and graphic narratives and understanding their formats as well as ways in which illustrators can get a start in comics. She will also talk about work opportunities both in Australia and overseas and why the illustrator who can also write comics is the ultimate creative power player.

Oz Comic-Con

Oz Comic Con is a speculative fiction entertainment and comic convention that has been running since 2012 within various major Australian cities, and is a local franchise of the New York Comic-Con. Attendees have included Nintendo Australia. Oz Comic Con currently runs in the cities of Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.

Supanova – Melbourne

Supanova Comic Con & Gaming has been the welcoming home of Australia’s pop culture fandom since 2000; a place where fans inspired by imaginary worlds emanating from comics, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, gaming, nostalgia and literature have been able to come together to celebrate. A place to rejoice in cosplay (‘cos’tume role-‘play’) in expressing your inner geek, your inner child.
